The origins of Boudhanath Stupa can be traced back to the 5th century AD, when it was built by King Manadeva and his wife, Queen Bhrikuti. Boudhanath Stupa is a major center of Buddhist pilgrimage, and is visited by millions of people each year. The stupa is particularly important for Tibetan Buddhists, as it is one of the few places where they can practice their religion freely. Many Tibetan refugees have settled in the area around the stupa, and the area has become a hub of Tibetan culture and tradition.

One of the most distinctive features of Boudhanath Stupa is its large dome-shaped structure, which is adorned with intricate carvings and paintings. The stupa is surrounded by a circular base, which is decorated with prayer wheels and prayer flags. The base of the stupa is also surrounded by many monasteries and temples, which are home to monks and nuns who study and practice Buddhism.

One of the main rituals that takes place at Boudhanath Stupa is the circumambulation, or kora. Pilgrims walk around the stupa in a clockwise direction, spinning the prayer wheels and reciting mantras. The circumambulation is seen as a way of purifying the mind and accumulating merit, and is an important part of the Buddhist practice.

In addition to its religious significance, Boudhanath Stupa is also a major cultural and historical site. The stupa is located in a bustling area, with many shops, restaurants, and hotels. The area around the stupa is a popular destination for tourists, who come to learn about Buddhism and to experience the unique culture and traditions of Nepal.

Boudhanath Stupa is a popular tourist destination, and is open to visitors from sunrise to sunset. There is no entrance fee to visit the stupa, and visitors are welcome to observe the rituals and ceremonies that take place there. Visitors are expected to dress modestly and remove their shoes before entering the stupa grounds.

Despite its popularity, Boudhanath Stupa faces many challenges. The stupa is located in a densely populated area, and the increased tourist traffic has put a strain on the surrounding infrastructure. In addition, the stupa is vulnerable to pollution and other environmental impacts, and there have been efforts to protect and preserve the site.

Despite these challenges, Boudhanath Stupa remains a sacred and important place for Buddhists from all over the world. It is a place of worship, devotion, and spiritual growth, and is a testament to the enduring power and beauty of Buddhism.
