History of Plane Crash in Nepal

The history of plane crashes in Nepal dates back to the early days of commercial aviation in the country. One of the earliest recorded crashes occurred in 1950, when a Douglas DC-3 operated by Indian Airlines crashed in the mountains near Pokhara, killing all 18 people on board.

Over the years, Nepal has seen a number of plane crashes due to a combination of factors, including poor weather conditions, lack of proper navigation equipment, and inadequate maintenance of aircraft. In 1992, a Pakistan International Airlines flight crashed into a mountain, killing all 167 people on board. This was one of the deadliest crashes in Nepal’s history.

Another tragic crash occurred in 2012, when a Agni Air Dornier 228 aircraft carrying 21 people crashed in the mountains, killing all on board. An investigation into the crash revealed that poor maintenance and inadequate training of the pilots were contributing factors.

In 2018, a small plane operated by local airline Tara Air crashed in the west of Nepal, resulting in the deaths of all 23 people on board. The investigation of the crash identified that the cause was the pilot’s poor judgement and lack of adherence to standard operating procedures

In recent years, the Nepalese government has taken steps to improve aviation safety in the country, including upgrading navigation equipment and increasing training for pilots. However, the challenging terrain and unpredictable weather of Nepal continue to make flying in the country a high-risk endeavor.
